A couple of years ago, I stumbled upon the Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard. It was completely outside of my comfort zone in terms of what I usually read but I thought, "What the heck?! Let's see what this is all about!". I absolutely devoured that series but since then, I haven't really found any similar novels that have caught my attention. I was apprehensive about trying this one out but I'm so happy that I did!
A Curse So Dark and Lonely is the first installment in the Cursebreaker series written by Brigid Kemmerer. The plot takes on the classic fairytale Beauty and the Beast, following the story of a strong heroine and tortured prince. In order to break a curse that has destroyed Prince Rhen's kingdom, he must find someone who can truly love him, someone who comes from another world...Harper's world. Harper is kidnapped from Washington D.C. and taken to Emberfall by Prince Rhen's guard, Commander Grey, in hopes that she will be the one to break the curse. Filled with adventure, romance, and magic, you're bound to get lost in the journey.
I fell for so many different aspects of this book, but the characters are by far my favorite part. Harper is the ultimate heroine, with a chip on her shoulder and a confidence that female readers will adore. Her confidence, as well as her fierceness, make her the ultimate feminist and in the end, her true strength shines through.
