REVIEW: The Hunter by L.J. Shen

Writer's picture: KOKO

Wowzer. This book is HOT. So hot that despite being a 29 year old woman with two children, there were parts of this book that had me blushing and checking to make sure no one was reading over my shoulder! Hunter, our leading male, has one dirty mouth and oh man, does he know how to use it!

Plot Quickie

Our boy Hunter has himself in quite the bind after staring in a makeshift sex tape that is now plastered all over the internet. As the heir to a multi-million dollar oil company, this type of publicity is unwanted and unneeded, so Hunter's father decides it's in his best interest to hire a babysitter. Enter Sailor, an olympic hopeful who is completely unfazed by Hunter's good looks and sweet talk. The only thing on her mind is beating out her lifelong rival and earning her spot on the U.S archery team. After accepting Mr. Fitgerald's offer to babysit his son, Sailor sets out to keep Hunter celibate and sober, while also keeping her eye on the prize. What could possibly go wrong?

The Verdict?

The answer to that question posed above is EVERYTHING. Absolutely everything can go wrong. Between Hunter's dirty mouth and even dirtier antics, Sailor has no chance in coming out of this arrangement unscathed and why the heck would she want to?! Hunter is the boy toy we've all been too afraid to ask for and enjoy. This isn't to say that in the beginning, I wasn't sure that anything Hunter did would make me truly like him. He screams Gen Z (no offense, my friends) and his atrocious use of the English language made me want to scream, but behind every bad boy is the reason they became that way.

Peeling back the layers of the guy underneath Hunter's bad boy persona was slow but that's what made it believable. He didn't go from #1 asshole to Prince Charming and who the hell wants Prince Charming anyways? He's 100% overrated. As for Sailor, that girl kicked ass and took names, emerging as the lioness that we all, Hunter included, knew she could be!
